In 1983, Bernard Béguin competed in the French Rally Championships at the wheel of the BMW M1 Group 4, prepared by the ORECA team and sponsored by BMW and Motul. Victories were not abundant, only achieving 3 second division rally wins out of 15 races, certainly due to an excessive weight (1150kg) and a very imposing build with its 20cm extra width compared to its competitors. In the world championships, the participation of BMW in Group B boiled down to a single round, the Tour de Corse 1983, that Mr. Beguin did not finish because of an engine problem. It was really not meant for rally, but had the ability to excite the public, as much by her rarity as by the sound escaping from her 6 cylinder engine.
