The Golf GTI is a success story that spans the decades and inspires generations of enthusiasts. Launched in 1976, the first Golf GTI was based on a 1,600 cc engine block, hence its name Golf GTI 1600. But, after a few years, this small engine was no longer sufficient to handle the weight of the competition. Thus, the German brand decided to launch the GTI 1800. Its success was immediate. This “Plus” version was a special series intended to support the end of life cycle of the very first Golf.
