Back in the day of the W123, AMG was not yet the property of Mercedes-Benz. Clients could therefore bring their own vehicles to the manufacturer so that the latter might add and improve where they saw fit, and dependant on what the client wanted. Marketed for all the W123 series (Break, coupé, or the sedan as seen here), the modifications by AMG touched upon all aspects of the vehicle, from bodywork kits to specific rims. The biggest change however was under the bonnet, with W123 models coming out of the AMG workshops with up to 225 hp!
