The Simca 1000 Rallye 2 is, as its name suggests, the 'competition' version of the Simca 1000. Between 1970 and 1978, four different versions were produced, but the Rallye2 was the best known of them all. It was also the best-seller, with almost 16,000 units leaving the factory at the time. A real hit, given the lack of interest in sports cars in the 70s! The beauty was powered by an engine developing 82 bhp at 6,200 rpm, boosted by two twin Solex carburettors. It gained 22bhp over the Rallye1 version, which was quite simply enormous in 1972! This rival to the R8 Gordini became a benchmark for many drivers.
