In the early 1990s, Peugeot began working on the successor to the famous 405—a challenging task given how beloved that sedan was.

The 406 was eventually launched in 1995. Its design aimed to be modern and original while still respecting the stylistic codes of the Sochaux-based brand at the time. The gamble paid off, and the 406 immediately won over its audience. In 1998, the car even became a cinema icon thanks to the film Taxi. This further boosted the appeal of the French sedan and its sporty versions, such as the V6.

It featured a new engine developed in collaboration with Renault, producing 210 hp at 6,000 rpm and allowing the car to exceed 230 km/h!
