At the time of its release, the Lupo was the smallest VW ever produced, and was placed below the Polo in the Volkswagen range. It certainly didn’t scream sports car; and yet, to everyone’s surprise, the German manufacturer produced a GTI version with a unique design that included specific shields, 15” rims, exhaust pipes and brake disks. Some of the improvements to the car were worthy of the massive sedans of the time, notably the xenon front lights. The 1.6L 16V engine with its 125 horsepower quickly turned the townie into a force to be reckoned with.
