The new MR2 (MkII) was presented at the Tokyo car show of 89. It was a new car with a smoother aesthetic, and was heavier and bigger than the first version. In order to invigorate the series, more radical versions followed, with the MR2 going so far as to take part in various races across Japan. Toyota Racing Development decided at that point to create a special kit to commemorate the car’s success. The fibreglass body is a reminder of competition cars, with the sides of the car having been widened, and the mechanical parts of the car having been kitted by TRD. Only 35 units of the car were distributed in all.
