Skoda Octavia WRC Rallye Monte Carlo 2003
When you think of rallying, you immediately think of Citroën, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Lancia or Audi. However, one of the brands most attached to the discipline is no less than Skoda! The Czech company has been involved in motor sports since 1901. In 1912, Skoda was already competing on the special stages of the Monte Carlo Rally, and rally-specific models have been produced regularly since the 1960s. So it was only half a surprise when, in 1998, the brand announced its arrival in the premier category, the WRC, with an Octavia! In 2003, to celebrate the arrival of the EVO 3 and the final season of the Octavia, Skoda hired a former world champion: Didier Auriol! The collaboration began with a promising Top 10 finish at the Monte Carlo Rally! Proof that the Czech saloon was able to score points. However, it was replaced a few months later by the Fabia WRC and its adventure officially came to an end at the 2003 Rally of Cyprus. In 2021, however, the misloved Skoda Octavia WRC was elected 'World Rally Car n°1' by the readers of the webzine DirtFish after a poll lasting several weeks! Proof that the beautiful Czech car has managed to make an impression despite its disappointing results.
