Honda, The Legendary Japanese Brand at OttOmobile, Miniatures for True Collectors!

Soichiro Honda, co-founder of the Honda brand, was born in 1906. In 1937, he founded his first company: Tokai Seiki, specializing in the manufacture of piston rings. The business grew rapidly, but both war and earthquake destroyed its facilities. Using the remaining assets, Soichiro Honda established the Honda Technical Research Institute. After WWII, he began fitting generator engines to bicycles. In 1947, the Honda Type A, a motorized bicycle, was born. The following year, Soichiro Honda founded the Honda Motor Company. Success came swiftly: by 1955, Honda had become Japan’s leading motorcycle manufacturer. In 1959, the brand entered the US market, and in 1963, Honda produced its first automobile, a small truck designed to transport motorcycles, which was an immediate hit. The following year, Honda entered Formula 1 with the RA271, and in 1965, the RA272 brought the company its first F1 victory. Through this rapid rise drew envy from competitors, it only strengthened Soichiro Honda’s resolve to invest in his ‘dream factory’: the Honda R&D Company, founded in 1960. 

The 1970s marked the beginning of another Honda revolution, this time on four wheels. The compact Civic arrived at the perfect moment, quickly becoming a global best-seller. This success allowed Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa, the company’s co-founders, to retire with the satisfaction of a job well done. Always driven by innovation and a forward-looking vision, Honda has played a pioneering role in numerous technological breakthroughs. In 1981, the company developed the world’s first map-based navigation system (GPS) for the Accord sold in Japan. In 1995, the CR-V (Compact Recreational Vehicle) became a runaway success, paving the way for the compact SUV trend. In 2000, Honda unveiled ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility), the first humanoid robot. By 2015, Honda’s innovation reached new heights with the launch of a private jet, even as its automotive production thrived on the eve of the brand’s 70th anniversary. Honda’s reputation for reliability, originality, and innovation continues to set it apart on the global stage. Its ability to adapt to diverse and evolving markets remains one of the key drivers of its enduring success. The future is already in motion, with Honda.

Since 2017, OttOmobile has proudly offered 1:18 scale resin models of iconic Honda vehicles. It all began with the Integra and Civic, two of the brand’s most emblematic models. We’ve sice recreated other legendary Hondas, including the CR-X, NSX, S2000, Del Sol, and of course, the celebrated Accord!  

And we are not stopping there, more 1:18 Honda miniatures are on the way. Who knows? Some of Honda’s most iconic models might soon appear in 1:12 scale!
