Hyundai: The Modern Times of Korea.

Hyundai Motor Company is a Korean car manufacturer founded in 1967. The name "Hyundai" means "modern times" in Korean. Its founder, Chung Ju-yung, was the son of a farming family. After several attempts to run away, he finally left the family farm for good in 1935 and moved to Seoul. There, he worked various small jobs before starting several businesses. In 1941, he launched an auto repair shop — the beginning of the Hyundai adventure. His business grew quickly, and six years later, the government encouraged him to merge with a local steel plant to aid in post-war reconstruction. Hyundai Engineering & Construction was born. In 1967, Chung Ju-yung finally launched Hyundai Motor Company.

Less than ten years later, Hyundai showcased the Pony at the Turin Auto Show and began exporting to South America. The 1980s marked a decade of expansion. Hyundai solidified its status as a major car manufacturer in the 1990s, opening a research center in Germany in 1994 and a production plant in Turkey in 1997. During this decade, the company also began testing its first electric and hybrid models. The 2000s marked a move upmarket, with more refined and international designs. To further build brand awareness, Hyundai entered motorsports, including a WRC program that was discontinued after a few seasons. In 2013, Hyundai released the world’s first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell vehicle and announced its grand return to the World Rally Championship. Today, the Hyundai-Kona Group is one of the five largest car manufacturers in the world! Its sporty "N" division is renowned for vehicles that perfectly combine driving pleasure, performance, and modern design. One standout example is the IONIQ 5 N, a flagship model of the new Hyundai era — both fun and sustainable. The brand is also known for its durability and reliability, proven by one American Hyundai that clocked 1.6 million kilometers in just five years — with the original engine! A record!

Hyundai at OttOmobile Since 2024,

OttOmobile has regularly offered Hyundai miniature cars. Our first 1:18 scale model was released in the April 2024 Club: the i30N! Since then, fans have enjoyed tuned versions of the i30N and the incredible N Vision 74 concept car. More Hyundai projects are currently in development at OttO! Miniature Hyundai enthusiasts are in for a treat in the coming years.
