Engagé avec Lancia Martini en Championnat du Monde des Rallyes, le jeune prodige finlandais Henri Toivonen roule également avec Porsche en Championnat d’Europe des Rallyes pour la saison 1984. Après plusieurs abandons et deux podiums, Toivonen décroche sa première victoire avec la Porsche 911 SC RS lors du Rally Costa Smeralda (en Sardaigne). Une épreuve qui compte alors pour le Championnat d’Europe des Rallyes. Il s’agit là de la toute première victoire de la Porsche 911 SC RS Groupe B sur une épreuve internationale !
