The 16V Clio had a massive task to undertake: succeed the legendary Renault 5 Turbo and Supercinq GT Turbo in the dynasty of the manufacturer’s small sports cars. It was also necessary to continue the fight against the icon of the time, her majesty the 205 GTI, still valiantly fighting despite reaching the end of its career. By abandoning its turbo engine in favour of a more advanced mechanical number equipped with 16 valves, the Clio turned its back on 20 years of history and entered a new era. With its less gawdy presentation, ultra-efficient chassis and modern aesthetics, the Clio 16V was a delight for sports enthusiasts. The bi-chrome rims with their specific design were the visual signature for this model.
