Per Eklund is one of Sweden's greatest rally drivers. He competed in the WRC between 1973 and 1997! He began his professional career with the Swedish brand Saab. He spent his entire Rallycross career with the national manufacturer, but after 12 rally seasons, he left to explore other teams. He drove for Fiat, Triumph, and even Subaru at the end of his career. But in 1980, he sensationally competed in the Monte Carlo Rally at the wheel of a Volkswagen Golf GTi decorated with the Swedish flag! He achieved a strong fifth place in the overall standings, just behind the Ascona of another Swede. An unexpected result for the little Golf Gr.2!
