The history of the R5 Maxi Turbo starts at Tour Auto in 1984 during the presentation to the press. In 1985 she made her debut in rally. As popular as the Berlinetta Alpine, the R5 caused devastation in the specials and with the event of Group B, the 5 grows again to make a monster of 350hp. In 1986, with Carlos Sainz at the wheel, it won six of the eleven rounds of the Spanish Championship, despite regular withdrawals due to technical problems, which still did not prevent it from becoming runner-up that year.
